Long Island Parolee Who Stole From 13 Unlocked Vehicles Arrested, Police Say

A Long Island man who stole items from 13 different vehicles in three towns within a month was apprehended and charged, according to police.

Patrick Fontaine, of Yaphank, 38, reportedly began his string of car larcenies on Monday, Aug. 30, Suffolk County Police said.

Among items that he stole were glasses, electronics, money and identification. He was charged with 13 counts of petit larceny, a misdemeanor. 

Fontaine was connected car larcenies in the following locations: 

  • Circle Drive in Shoreham on Monday, Aug. 30.
  • Circle Drive in Shoreham on Tuesday, Aug. 31.
  • Jomar Road in Shoreham on Monday, Sept. 13.
  • Reynolds Road in Shoreham on Saturday, Sept. 18.
  • Frederick Drive in Shoreham on Saturday, Sept.18.
  • John Street in Shoreham between Saturday, Sept.18 and Sunday, Sept. 19.
  • Royal Way in Shoreham on Sunday, Sept. 19.
  • John Street in Shoreham on Sunday, Sept. 19.
  • Knight Street in Shoreham on Sunday, Sept. 19.
  • Zophar Mills Road in East Shoreham between Monday, Sept. 20 and Tuesday, Sept. 21.
  • Randall Road in Wading River between Monday, Sept. 20 and Tuesday, Sept. 21.
  • Zophar Mills Road in East Shoreham on Tuesday, Sept. 21.
  • Thomas Drive in Wading River between Monday, Sept. 20 and Tuesday, Sept. 21.

Fontaine was identified as a suspect after an investigation into the larcenies, and was caught after an officer recognized him in the vicinity of Route 25A in Wading River at approximately 7:50 a.m. and was taken into custody on the grounds of Shoreham Wading River High School. 

Fontaine was also charged with seventh-degree criminal possession, and for breaking his parole.
